Prehistoric Shark Jaws Exhibit at NEA Expo in New Orleans , July 1-3

Imagine shark jaws measuring 10 feet wide and 8 feet tall. These massive choppers belonged to Carchardon megalodon, a prehistoric shark that makes “JAWS” look like a guppy...and the central character in author Steve Alten’s engrossing best-selling thriller, MEG. The jaws will be exhibited at the NEA convention as part of Alten’s non-profit organization, Adopt-An-Author, a nationwide reading program that helps the students and teachers of secondary schools.

Adopt-An-Author began when middle and high school teachers realized MEG and other Alten novels were very popular among students. Steve responded by offering free curriculum to teachers and interactive websites to the students. The program enables teachers and students to interact with the author through conference calls in the classroom, visitations, and e-mails (Steve personally responds to every e-mail he receives). Alten explains, “Teachers have been amazed at how well their students have taken to Adopt-An-Author. The combination of exciting novels and direct contact with the author adds a whole new dimension to learning.” Alten’s background is in academics, he earned a Doctorate in Education and is certified to teach.

The NEA is America 's oldest and largest organization committed to advancing the cause of public education. Steve Alten will be at the exhibit on July 1-3 in booth #748. While hosting the shark jaws exhibit and registering teachers for Adopt-An-Author, Steve will be signing copies of his books. His novels include: MEG, The TRENCH, DOMAIN and GOLIATH. (GOLIATH will be released earlier that same week in mass-market paperback.) For more information, or for an interview with Steve Alten, contact Leisa Cotner-Cobbs at (740)756-7650.
