Killer hurricanes, new DNA evidence in Loch Ness, giant squids...is all this part of some new Steve Alten novel or a segment on CNN Headline News? TRUTH is stranger than FICTION, so with that in mind, here’s your October update


It’s rare that I agree to do a book signing tour, but with everything happening in Loch Ness (see below) and the completion of a 7-foot skull that matches the tooth allegedly found in March by two college students, it looks like I’m on the road again. New MEG NOVEL, Finally!

The new MEG paperback has been released and should be showing up in bookstores this week. Remember, the all-new expanded and edited edition has a T-Rex on the front cover being devoured by a Megalodon.
The book will be a paperback release only. The original First Edition Collector’s hardback of MEG has been unavailable for 5 years now, and there were 185,000 printed of that First Edition. When the MEG movie comes out, we’ll print about a half million copies of this new paperback, but for now, TSUNAMI BOOKS will only print 10,000 First Edition copies of this new release, making it a rare collector’s item. Retail Price: $7.99

MEG MOVIE UPDATE

A BIG UPDATE in November. And yes, there will be one more MEG book: MEG 4; Hell’s Aquarium. When will it be released? Perhaps Spring/Summer 2007. Hell’s Aquarium will be THE TRENCH on steroids. It will feature Maren’s nightmares foreshadowed in MEG; Primal Waters, and much more. ( a major character will die a bloody death.)

Two major news stories hit in September, both involving THE LOCH!
NEWS STORY 1:

September 16th, 2005
Scientists hunting the Loch Ness Monster say they've made a significant breakthrough. Flesh-like material, which could hold the key to Nessie's origins, has been recovered from the loch bed. It'll now be subject to DNA testing here and in the United States. Veteran Nessie-hunter Dr Bob Rines is a pioneer of radar and sonar, at 83 this could be his last expedition...but also his most successful. Using underwater robots, the team has scooped up material that may finally prove the existence of large animals deep in the loch. Samples will be tested at laboratories in Scotland and the United States. The results could be far-reaching....and if they are they will be found.

NEWS STORY 2:

This one concerns the opening chapter of THE LOCH:
Sept. 28, 2005:
Japanese scientists have caught on camera a living giant squid, showing for the first time one of the most mysterious creatures of the deep sea in its natural habitat. The size of a bus, with eyes as big as dinner plates and a tangle of tentacles covered with suckers, the giant squid (Architeuthis dux) has nourished legends and attracted human fascination since the ancient Greeks. The real thing, a purplish-red cephalopod measuring roughly 25 feet, was photographed 2,950 feet beneath the North Pacific by cameras attached to a baited fishing line. More than 500 images show the squid wrapping its giant tentacles around the bait.

Now watch, next to rise from the depths will be a 70 foot albino Megalodon! The scariest story will involve my 8th novel, THE SHELL GAME, previewed in the back of THE LOCH and the new MEG paperback.


2012 Doomsday coming to History Channel:

If you read DOMAIN & RESURRECTION, books 1 & 2 of the DOMAIN series, then you know the Mayan calendar predicts the end of humanity on December 21st in the year 2012. Could it really happen? On September 19th, I flew to the Yucatan and spent a week in Chichen Itza filming a History Channel special on the 2012 Doomsday Prophecy. (See photo above) The special includes actual footage of the Equinox Serpent’s Shadow, an event that has been happening for over 1,000 years on the Kukulcan Pyramid. While I have been to Chichen Itza before (researching the DOMAIN series) this was my first view of the shadow, and it was spectacular. I will update you about the History Channel Special when I get the aire dates.
