| RESURRECTION
RELEASE |
 |
| For
those of you who enjoyed DOMAIN, you will love part 2 of
the series: RESURRECTION. The novel is my best to date,
and deals with the after-life, the future of human kind,
and the origins of evil. (We're in some serious
trouble...)
The Limited Edition Hardback, featuring (MEG fan)
Matt Herrmann's incredible artwork, arrives in
bookstores in February (late January) but can be
pre-ordered via the Internet. This one's 2 years in the
making, with more research and action than any Alten
novel to date. Reserve
your copy today!

To add some spice to the coming attractions, We have
added a RESURRECTION animated preview. And...to further
whet your appetites, Burning Grounds Entertainment is
currently filming a wild "commercial" preview,
which should be ready before Christmas. This latter
preview will be tied to a new character contest,
offering winners a chance to be in my 8th novel, yet to
be determined. The contest begins in December (see next
newsletter) and ends in Feb. To win, individuals simply
need to spread the preview top friends and family around
the World Wide Web...something you'll want to do anyway.
More details to come in next month's newsletter.

| The
LOCH - coming to the big screen? To the 66 readers
featured as characters in THE LOCH, fame and fortune may
be just around the corner! This story appeared on CHUD,
CREATURE CORNER, FANGORIA, and other internet movie
sites (thanks guys!)
"New York Times Bestseller Steve Alten's seventh
novel, The Loch ("A timeless legend, one man's
nightmare"), will be produced by David Foster and
Ryan E. Heppe of David Foster Productions ("The
Mask of Zorro," "The River Wild") and Ken
Atchity and Chi-Li Wong of Atchity Entertainment
International, Alten's long-time literary managers.
Alten's first bestseller, Meg (nicknamed "Jurassic
Shark"), which sold over one million copies
worldwide and was just re-released in paperback by
Bantam, was optioned by Walt Disney Pictures but went
into turnaround with a turnover in Disney management.
"The goal with Steve's most imaginative and
best-written book yet," Atchity commented, "is
to add creative elements before approaching studios or
financiers to enhance our progress to the big
screen." Foster was chosen by Alten & AEI
because of his long-time fascination with the Loch Ness
monster, and says "I could not put this book down.
What's great about it is it has strong characters and is
grounded in great in-depth research. It convincingly
answers an age-old question: What exactly is the Loch
Ness monster?" Foster and Atchity expect to
announce shortly a major creative addition to the Loch
team."
So what's the scoop?
The manuscript is finished, and those who've read it
believe it to be THE quintessential Loch Ness Monster
story, heavily researched, backed by real science,
wrapped around a page-turning plot. I can't give out any
details just yet...at least not until a studio and
publishing deal is inked (fingers crossed) but as soon
as things are settled, we'll post storyline info, a few
free chapters (just to tease you) and movie updates on
the website. As to a publishing date, the novel won't
hit stores until at least early 2005 (at the very
earliest) since MEG: Primal Waters will be feasting upon
the shelves this summer. (No offense to 13 year old
Bethany Hamilton, the Hawaiian surfer who just lost her
arm to a 15 foot tiger shark...yikes.)
What's been especially neat about this entire process
was how so many of YOU contributed. It began with a
READER POLL that determined what my next book should be
(The LOCH NESS story won hands down). >From there,
researcher/artist Bill McDonald offered his fascinating
theories about Nessie (along with his artwork) and then
the amazingly talented graphic artist Erik Hollander
designed the cover art AND brought the creature to life
(Nessie's real, but not what you think). If you want a
smorgasbord for the eyes, visit Erik's website at Erikart.com
Storyboarder Rikin Parekh (a MEG fan in the United
Kingdom) then created three incredible scenes, which we
added to the film package, and Scottish fan Calum
Forrest was always there to offer me special Highland
tidbits during the writing. MEG fan Ryan Heppe then
brought in legendary producer David Foster, and we were
off and running.
All of these talented individuals simply introduced
themselves to me in an e-mail at some point over the
years, just like Matt Herrmann (Resurrection cover art)
and Greg Stechman (Burning Grounds Entertainment). Now
they are contributing members of my team and friends,
and will hopefully reap the rewards of any success we
hope to achieve together.
